hey guys, when i go pick up my 78 f250 excab/long bed, i was wondering what your opinoins are on getting her home? its around a 5 hour drive, 4 hours on the highway, 1 hour on a 2lane road, and she wont fit on a u-haul, and my dad is in alberta working now so he cant use his freightliner and a flatbed trailer to go pick her up, so im kinda out of ideas. i was thinking what would it be like to get the dolly that just pulls the 2 front wheels, and then unhook the rear driveshaft, or just leave it. Towing it will be a '10 GMC All-Terrain package with the towing package(transmission, maybe different gears? and the button for towing lol). any input is appreciated. thanks

From my limited experience with them, It probably wont fit on a tow dolly either. Will the truck drive as is? If so drive the truck back with a strap/rope/chain to a vehicle in front of you so that you are "flat towing" the unregistered truck.
The best option is a trailer.

I would guess that by now you got it home...
You *can* squeeze a late 70's on a U-haul tow dolly. But you will have to put a set of stock rims and small tires on to have any hope of it fitting. We brought my dad's '79 F-150 home like that from storage, borrowed a pair of stock F-150 rims with junky 235/75/15 tires from a friend, just barely fit. Of course, U-haul told us that an '89 F-350 dump with a 460ci motor wasn't enough truck to tow a '79 F-150 4x4 so we just told them we were going to tow a Ranger home, lol.
