Kenneth McCay’s 2022 Ford Maverick XL is a standout custom mini-truck build that combines classic mini-truck styling with modern performance upgrades. This lowered Maverick features air suspension, painted tribal graphics, 20-inch MSR 087 wheels, a turbocharged 2.4L EcoBoost engine, and a fully upgraded Alpine audio system. Designed for mini-truck enthusiasts, Ford Maverick owners, and show truck collectors, this build exemplifies creativity, craftsmanship, and versatility.

From the bold exterior graphics to the custom interior with diamond-stitched seats, subwoofers, and underglow lighting, Kenneth’s Maverick demonstrates how the 2022 Ford Maverick can be transformed into a head-turning mini-truck project. This build is perfect for street shows, weekend cruising, and mini-truck events.

The 2022 Maverick represents Ford’s return to the mini-truck segment after recognizing the demand for smaller, efficient, and fun-to-drive pickups. Ford discontinued the Ranger in 2011 and launched the Maverick in 2022 as a unibody compact truck, breathing new life into the mini-trucking scene. Kenneth McCay’s build highlights the creative possibilities of this modern Ford Maverick XL.

Kenneth started with a silver 2022 Ford Maverick XL, lowered it using a custom Chassis Tech air suspension with raised strut towers, and added bold tribal graphics painted directly onto the body. No vinyl or wraps were used — every detail is hand-finished for show-quality appeal.

A 35-inch custom ragtop roof adds versatility for nighttime cruising, while the interior upgrades include diamond-stitched seats, custom door panels, multiple speakers in each front door, a speaker in each rear door, and subwoofers installed in the floor. NTX Audio Innovations outfitted the Maverick with a powerful Alpine audio system featuring four 12-inch subwoofers, two 10-inch subs, six 6.5-inch component speakers, and dual 5-channel amplifiers backed by a pair of sub amps.

Performance enhancements include a custom air intake and exhaust system by BC Raceworks, a custom engine cover by My World Fabrication, and MRT No Drill Hood Struts to display the turbocharged 2.4L EcoBoost engine during shows. These upgrades ensure that Kenneth’s Maverick performs as impressively as it looks.

Growing up, my father always believed that every family needed a truck—there’s just something about having a vehicle capable of hauling anything at a moment’s notice. That philosophy stuck with me, and it’s been the foundation of my lifelong passion for Ford trucks.

While I’m best known for my work with Ford Rangers, I’ve owned a wide variety of Ford trucks over the years—including F-150s, F-250s, F-350s, and even larger rigs like the Ford Excursion, Ford Expedition, and a 1982 Ford Econoline Sportsmobile camper van. I’ve used these vehicles for everything from family transportation to towing car trailers and campers, and each one has fueled my love for Ford’s versatility and durability.

I especially enjoy the styling of 1970s and 1980s Ford trucks—the bold designs, rugged presence, and classic charm are timeless. Sharing my passion for Ford trucks, vans, and SUVs with other enthusiasts online brings me a great deal of joy, and it’s why I created Blue Oval Trucks.

This website is dedicated to helping Ford truck enthusiasts explore, learn about, and celebrate these incredible vehicles. While I share my expertise and experiences here, Blue Oval Trucks is an independent enthusiast site and is not affiliated with Ford Motor Company.
