I’ve covered the Ford Econoline Chinook 4×4 RV built from 2000-2004 on here before. This is clearly not a 2004. The vehicle actually started as a 2005 Ford E-450 ambulance. It’s equipped with a 6.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel engine with a Quigley Motor Company four-wheel-drive conversion. The ambulance was retired in 2016 with only 12,000 miles on the odometer. In 2017, the owner of a custom fabrication shop bought it and turned it into a unique Class B RV.
The ambulance body was removed, and the body of a 2004 Chinook Concourse Class B RV was added. The front fenders, hood, grill, lights, and bumper were removed and replaced with parts from a 2008-2014 model for an updated look.
Some of the notable features include a fully equipped kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator/freezer combo, dual-range electric stovetop, sink, microwave, and all-new smooth-coated and cleared cabinetry. Occupants are also provided with an enclosed bathroom with toilet and shower, laminated counters and tabletop, a fold-out queen bed, and a new Mach 8 Plus Cub A/C and heater unit. Entertainment features consist of a Pioneer head unit, a multi-speaker sound system, and an LG television screen. The RV cabin also retains its original freshwater tank and custom-made gray water tank for the sink and shower and features a new Suburban SW6DE water heater and Manchester propane tank. There is no need for a generator thanks to its roof-mounted 700-watt Starlight Solar Power Systems kit, although it can also connect to shore/land power when available.
As an overland style build, the suspension has also been upgraded with the following:
- Agile Tuned FOX front and rear shocks
- Agile Tuned Fox Steering Stabilizer
- Agile Front Variable Rate front springs
- Hellwig 1.5” rear sway bar kit
- SD Truck HD 10-leaves Rear Leaf Spring Pack
- Air Lift Wireless Rear Air Bag leveling system
Supplemental illumination is provided by Rigid Industries LED lighting in the front and rear. The custom-fitted Mopar aluminum wheels are mounted with 245/75/17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar tires, and the truck is equipped with a dually rear axle.
Outside, this E450 features a silver finish with custom “Overland” graphics in black. Exterior additions include a Dometic 9500 manual awning, a custom-made steel rear bumper with spare tire swing-out, custom aluminum ladder for roof access, aluminum fuel can and off-road rack holder, and custom fabricated Raptor LED taillights.

About The Author
Growing up, my father always believed that every family needed a truck—there’s just something about having a vehicle capable of hauling anything at a moment’s notice. That philosophy stuck with me, and it’s been the foundation of my lifelong passion for Ford trucks.
While I’m best known for my work with Ford Rangers, I’ve owned a wide variety of Ford trucks over the years—including F-150s, F-250s, F-350s, and even larger rigs like the Ford Excursion, Ford Expedition, and a 1982 Ford Econoline Sportsmobile camper van. I’ve used these vehicles for everything from family transportation to towing car trailers and campers, and each one has fueled my love for Ford’s versatility and durability.
I especially enjoy the styling of 1970s and 1980s Ford trucks—the bold designs, rugged presence, and classic charm are timeless. Sharing my passion for Ford trucks, vans, and SUVs with other enthusiasts online brings me a great deal of joy, and it’s why I created Blue Oval Trucks.
This website is dedicated to helping Ford truck enthusiasts explore, learn about, and celebrate these incredible vehicles. While I share my expertise and experiences here, Blue Oval Trucks is an independent enthusiast site and is not affiliated with Ford Motor Company.
