Can The Ford Expedition Tremor Be An Overlander?

Ford’s premium offroad package is the Tremor, and for 2025 it will find its way on the 2025 Ford Expedition. Ford states that the new Tremor will have 10.6-inches of ground clearance which is better than any other vehicle in the Large Traditional Utility class.

The Tremor actually replaces the Ford Expedition Timberline package which first appeared on the Expedition in 2022. The Timberline also had 10.6-inches of ground clearance, so this isn’t an upgrade over the Timberline package. The Chevy Tahoe Z70 and Jeep Wagoneer both have 10-inches of ground clearance. The Tremor will come with P275/70R18 (33.2×10.8×18) General Grabber all-terrain tires while the Chevy Tahoe has 275/60R20 (33×10.8×20) tires and the Jeep Wagoneer has 285/45R-22 (31.2×11.2×22) tires.

The Ford Expedition Tremor is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 High-Output engine that puts out up to 440 hp and 510 lb.-ft. of torque which is 40 more horsepower and 30 lb-ft torque more than the other Expedition models. Again, this is unchanged from the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline.

Other features include a Re-tuned suspension and Electric Power-Assisted Steering systems, Raptor-inspired running boards and front skid plate, embedded off-road auxiliary lights behind the grille, and underbody protection for the front axle, transfer case and fuel tank.

Ford states that it was made for adventures that venture far off the beaten path, with a drive mode system that includes Rock Crawl Mode, and trail control system that includes Trail Turn Assist and Trail 1-Pedal.

“Tremor is the pinnacle of Expedition adventure-ready capability,” said Adrian Aguirre, Expedition Chief engineer. “Expedition Tremor delivers off-road capability and hardware shared with F-150 Tremor combined with Expedition big family and cargo-carrying versatility.”

But is it a capable overlanding vehicle right off of the dealer lot?

Overlanding is definitely more of a buzzword than it was a few short years ago. But in the last five years, there’s a good chance that thousands of people have been introduced to the term. But what exactly does overlanding entail?

Overlanding is often misinterpreted as just car camping, four-wheeling, or #vanlife. While it can encompass those things, at its heart, overlanding is about self-sufficient vehicle travel where the adventure itself is the destination. Regardless of what you might be driving, an overland traveler should be prepared to manage their own needs through equipment and skill.

At its core, overlanding embodies the spirit of exploration. It’s about seeking out the less traveled roads and fully immersing yourself in new environments and cultures. No matter where your journey takes you, there are sure to be aspects of the day-to-day life of the locals that we can learn from. Local cuisine, music, history, and more can enrich a trip, and slowing down and taking the time to learn about these cultural aspects can truly enrich a trip. Sure, you’ll visit remote campsites and face off-road challenges, but every twist and turn along the way becomes an opportunity for personal reflection and growth.

So, with keeping that in mind, the new Ford Expedition Tremor should be more than capable of seeking out adventure on the roads less traveled. Although a Rough Country suspension lift would give it even better ground clearance.

Growing up, my father always believed that every family needed a truck—there’s just something about having a vehicle capable of hauling anything at a moment’s notice. That philosophy stuck with me, and it’s been the foundation of my lifelong passion for Ford trucks.

While I’m best known for my work with Ford Rangers, I’ve owned a wide variety of Ford trucks over the years—including F-150s, F-250s, F-350s, and even larger rigs like the Ford Excursion, Ford Expedition, and a 1982 Ford Econoline Sportsmobile camper van. I’ve used these vehicles for everything from family transportation to towing car trailers and campers, and each one has fueled my love for Ford’s versatility and durability.

I especially enjoy the styling of 1970s and 1980s Ford trucks—the bold designs, rugged presence, and classic charm are timeless. Sharing my passion for Ford trucks, vans, and SUVs with other enthusiasts online brings me a great deal of joy, and it’s why I created Blue Oval Trucks.

This website is dedicated to helping Ford truck enthusiasts explore, learn about, and celebrate these incredible vehicles. While I share my expertise and experiences here, Blue Oval Trucks is an independent enthusiast site and is not affiliated with Ford Motor Company.
