When I purchased my used 2016 Ford F-150 I discovered that the wallet card containing the 5-digit code to unlock the doors was missing.

This is a common problem. New owners place the card in their wallet, and never put it back in the vehicle when they trade it in or sell it. Likewise, car dealers never think to ask the owner for the card, or make sure there is a door code with the vehicle when they sell it. The Ford service department can get you the code, but there’s going to be a fee involved.

Fortunately, there’s are few easy ways to get the code on your own. These methods should work on 2015-2020 Ford F-150’s

Method #1 – Keyless Key Fobs:

My 2016 F-150 came with two keyless remote key fobs. You’ll need both of them for this to work.

At the front of the center console is a compartment with a rubber mat in the bottom. Remove the mat.

After you remove the mat, you’ll see a spot molded in to the plastic that fits your key fob.

Place one of your key fobs in the spot with the Ford logo side up.

With the key fob in place, leave your foot off of the brake, and tap the start button. After it chimes 3-times, press the start button again.

Replace the key fob with the other key fob with the Ford logo side up.

Again, tap the start button without your foot on the brake. This time after the truck chimes 3-times a message with the door code will pop up on the screen.

Method #2 – Key Method:

A similar method works if you have both truck keys.

Place the first key in the ignition, turn the key so the ignition is on, but not far enough to start the truck.

After the truck chimes 3-times, remove the key.

Now put the other key in the ignition and turn the key on but don’t start the truck.

After the truck chimes 3-times it will display the door code on the instrument display.

Method #3 – Behind Passenger Side Fuse Panel:

So what if you only have (1) key and can’t use the other two methods?

There is a sticker on the Body Control Module (BCM) that has the door key code printed on it. The module is behind the fuse block which is behind the passenger side kick panel.

Remove the fuse panel cover.

You’ll need to lift up the plastic trim plate as well.

It just snaps in place.

This will allow you to pull the kick panel back and loose. There is a plastic locating pin and a retainer clip holding it in place. You need to pull the panel straight back in line with the truck, not inward toward the passenger compartment.

I used a flathead screwdriver to help pull the top of the kick panel loose so I didn’t break it.

You don’t have to take the panel completely off. Just pull it straight back so the tab and clip is free, and then move it to the left enough to see inside.

You’ll see a white sticker with black print. I used the camera on my phone to zoom in and take a photo of it. I blurred out the 5-digit code for security reasons.

Conclusion:

There you have it. One of these methods should help you locate the door key code for your 2015-2020 Ford F-150.
